Challenge FAQS

Q. What is the Step4Change Challenge?
A. It’s a virtual challenge where we’re asking groups to walk 4 miles on International Women’s Day. This is to show solidarity with the 1 in 4 women who will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

Q. Who can take part in the challenge?
A. This challenge is for corporate teams, community groups, such as walking groups, or school groups. While it isn’t open to individuals, there are lots of other ways to get involved with supporting Refuge this International Women’s Day. Click here to find out more.

Q. Do we have to do the challenge on International Women’s Day?
A. The challenge is completely flexible. If you’re unable to complete the walk on IWD, your team can select a day that suits you and your team throughout the month of March.

Q. How do I sign up?
A. You can register by completing the form above and opening a JustGiving page. Once registered, we’ll send you all the guidance you need to get started and a form to order your t-shirts.

Q. What’s included in the fundraising pack?
The pack includes fundraising tips and tools to help you reach your target and more information about Refuge’s vital work with survivors.

Q. Will my team and I get a Refuge t-shirt to wear during this challenge?
Yes, you’ll get a t-shirt and we will provide you further information about ordering these once you have registered.

Our t-shirt sizes are:

  • S 35/37″
  • M 38/40″
  • L 41/43″
  • XL 44/46″
  • 2XL 47/49″
  • 3XL 50/52″

Q. Is there a registration fee?
A. No, there’s no registration fee.

Q. How do I set up my fundraising page?
A. You can open a JustGiving page on our Step4Change campaign here.
We recommend just one page for your team, and you can personalise it with your team name, photos, and your story to inspire donations.

Q. Is there a fundraising target?
A. We suggest setting a target of £1,000 per team of 10 or £100 per person taking part in order to receive exclusive goodies. Raising £1,000 could buy food supplies, toiletries and cleaning products to help 40 families living in refuges stay safe and healthy

However, any amount you raise will make a huge difference!

Q. What if we don’t meet our fundraising target?
A. Not to worry if you don’t meet your target. Every donation counts and goes directly toward helping survivors of domestic abuse.

Q. Where do we walk?
A. You can walk wherever you like, whether it’s a park, your neighbourhood or around a city.

Q. Do all team members have to walk together?
A. No, your team can decide what works best. You can walk together as a group or separately if you work from home for example.

Q. Can we do other activities instead of walking?
A. The challenge is focused on walking, but feel free to adapt it to your team’s abilities. For example, you can complete the distance in your wheelchair, or you can switch it up and opt to jog or run to reach the equivalent distance.

Q. Will there be support during the challenge?
A. Absolutely, our team will be available to answer any questions and cheer you on. You’ll also receive regular emails with tips and encouragement.

Q. Can we wear our own team t-shirts or designs?
A. Yes, feel free to add your own personal touch! Just remember to include our free t-shirt in your photos to help spread awareness about the cause.

Q. How do I share that we’ve completed the challenge?
A. We’d love to see your journey! Please do send us photos and don’t forget to tag us on our socials (@refugecharity) so we can share your achievements too!

Q. What happens if we raise funds after the challenge ends?
A. That’s amazing! Donations can still be collected up to a month after the challenge—every penny counts.
